Hanover Park Vineyard was unknowingly born during a month long honeymoon in the south of France in the summer of 1996. Michael and Amy Helton returned home, with a love of wine and the countryside, and by December Hanover Park Vineyard, in the Yadkin Valley of North Carolina began. The Raffaldini Family dates back to the year 1348 in the town of Mantua, in the Northern Province of Lombardy, Italy. Since this time, the Raffaldini Family has owned and continues to live on the farm where the great classical poet philosopher Virgil spent his youth. Over this time period, the Raffaldini Family has witnessed many historical events and has often marked these times with special family dinners and homemade Italian wine. This fusion of family, food and wine is also an integral part of the normal daily life.

The RagApple Lassie Vineyard happily grows in the small Yadkin County town of Boonville, North Carolina, located about 25 miles northwest of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and just under the western gaze of Pilot Mountain (to you Andy Griffith fans, this is Mount Pilot). Vineyards are not new to North Carolina, in fact, 150 years ago, North Carolina produced more grapes than all other states combined. However, the grapes grown at the time were Concords and they did not survive the interruptions caused by World War I and Prohibition. Once again vineyards are flourishing in North Carolina, particularly in Yadkin and surrounding counties. This is no surprise because elevations of approximately 1,200 feet, soil composition and microclimates of the protected river basin make this area one of the best for producing quality wine grapes.

Round Peak Vineyards is located in the rolling hills of the Yadkin Valley in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Visitors to the vineyard will see Fisher’s Peak, Saddle Mountain, and Round Peak, for which the vineyards are named. The vineyards sit at an ideal elevation of 1300 feet. The rocky soil is similar to the soil of European vineyards. The rolling hills provide good French and Italian varieties. Twelve acres of vines produce Chardonnay, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Nebbiolo and Sangiovese.

Founded in 1999, Shelton Vineyards is the largest family-owned estate winery in North Carolina. Located in the Yadkin Valley near Dobson and Mt. Airy, NC, the winery features a spacious visitor center with a tasting bar and gift shop. Shelton Vineyards offers tours and tastings every day of the week. Shelton Vineyards’ grounds are beautifully landscaped, and picnicking is encouraged. Picnic supplies are available on the premises. Westbend Vineyards is located in Lewisville, North Carolina. The 60 acres of prime vinifera vineyards are neatly tucked into the gently rolling countryside in the northwest corner of Forsyth County, where the Yadkin Valley begins. The name Westbend refers to the Yadkin River, which takes a bend to the west in this area and has given the name to the region.
